Spin Training For Triathlon ?
Tennis13 asked:
I am working towards competing in a triathlon and I need some help with my bike (SPIN) Training. Since the indoor bikes we use in spinning class so not have distance trackers I have a hard time knowing how far I am going. I was just wondering how long I should bike before I go and start my run. Also what is the best spinning techniques, should I mix in high resistance for 1 min and then go low resistance or should I do all high and then some low. Any help would be greatly apprecited. Thank you

This is a good site for training.
To get a good answer to this question, you need to specify the length of triathlon that you are training for. There are sprint distances, olympic, half-ironman, and ironman. I’m assuming that you are spinning because of the cold weather? I personally would suggest building your running base during the cold weather and just spin for maintenance on your biking so that you are ready to kill it come spring time. If you are spinning by yourself, keep it at around 90 rpm and the length to spin is based on what distance that you are training for and what day of the week it is. You really need a workout plan specific to your distance. They are not hard to find.
You need some of everything to do well in triathlon. Some LSD (long slow distance), some high intensity intervals.
I do spin classes occasionally just for something different, but spin bikes aren’t especially applicable other than their contribution to your cardiovascular fitness. Its important to get comfortable generating horsepower in your racing aero position.
Most triathletes use a regular bike on a resistance trainer when they aren’t riding outside.
As for time, I’d go at least an hour. It hardly seems worth changing clothes, showering, and doing laundry for anything less.
