How long does it take to train for a triathlon?
gypsy asked:
I’m in pretty good shape and really want to do a triathlon. Just wondering, how long does it usually take to train for one…any pointers? What are the average times for the swim, run and cycle?

I think it would take about 6 months to train even if you are in decent shape. I have never done one but it takes alot more out of you than you would think.
That depends on the length of the triathlon. There are “sprint” triathlons that consist of a 4 or 500 meter swim, 15 mile bike and a 3 mile run. Someone who is in good shape could complete a race like this with little to no training. On the other end of the spectrum is the Ironman-distance of 2.4 miles, 112 miles, and 26.2 miles. An event like this should not be attempted without at least 6 months of training.
