Moving from SF to NYC: where to live to continue to train for triathlons and be outdoors?

Thomas A asked:

I’m moving for work from SF—where I bike in Marin, and do masters swimming in the city—to NYC, and I’m wondering whether to live in Manhattan or a nearby commuter town. Can I still get a good ride in from the city? Do I need to live in Westchester? Any ideas where an athletic type who works hard during the day should live in the area? All suggestions welcome, thanks! T

Obviously, my training is over. I’m resting and drinking water and stretching. What else can I do to be totally prepared for it mentally, physically, and emotionally?

How hard would it be to complete this triathlon?

smokeyjoejr1 asked:

I was wondering how hard it would be to complete this triathlon. It’s part of the Chicago Triathlon held at the end of August.
It’s a .25 mile swim, 6.2 mile bike, and 1.55 mile run.

I’m 15, and I’m currently on the track team at school. I primarily run the 1600m (mile) and 800m events. We do about 30 miles per week at practice all together. I used to swim competitively when I was younger, and never had any trouble biking.

Obviously I would do triathlon specific training, I just wanted to know how difficult it would be. I’d greatly appreciate any feedback from anyone who has already ran a triathlon.

First Triathlon. what do I wear?

Churys asked:

I am doing my first triathlon and been training like crazy. Depending on what I am training that specific day determines what I wear (ex. bike=shorts, swim=bathing suit, run=jog suit)
I just saw a tri on TV and they wore the same body short outfit through all three transition - my goal is just to finish but is it a big hassle to change? Should I consider investing in one of those tri suits?

How do I train for the swimming portion of a triathlon?

Jenilyn asked:

I am trying to train for my first sprint triathlon and am very weak in the swimming portion of it. I can not even complete 50yards without stopping to rest. How do I possibly increase that and is it possible? It seems unreachable at this point.
